Delete your account
Two ways, both real. Nothing here is going to try to talk you out of it.
Can’t open the app? Email us.
hello@bloomjournaling.comIf you uninstalled Bloom, lost your sign-in, or signed in with Apple and cannot get back in — write to us from the address on the account and say that you want it deleted. We will delete the account and everything in it within 7 days and write back to confirm. No form to fill in, and no reason you have to give.
If you can no longer send mail from the address you signed up with, write from any address and tell us which one the account uses — we may ask you something only the account holder would know before we erase anything.
In the app
If you can still sign in, this is the fastest route and it finishes while you wait.
- Open Bloom Journal and go to Profile.
- Tap the cog in the top corner to open Settings.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete my account.
- Sign in once more when asked — we confirm it is really you before anything is erased.
- Confirm with Yes, delete everything.
Re-authenticating first is deliberate: if you cancel at that step, nothing at all has been deleted and your journal is exactly as it was.
What gets deleted
Everything below goes, whichever route you take:
- Your account — the sign-in itself, your email address, your password, and the links to Google or Apple sign-in.
- Every journal entry stored in the cloud, with its text, title, mood and reflection.
- Every painting and every video we generated for you, including the working copies our servers kept while making them.
- Your character — the written description of how you should appear in your paintings, and the traits behind it.
- Your profile and settings — display name, language, time zone, notification choices, storage choice, streak pauses.
- Your push notification registrations, so no device gets another reminder.
- Your invite code and the record that pointed it back at you.
- The copy on the phone you delete from — the local database, the painting and video files, the saved drafts, and your profile portrait. All of it is erased in the same action.
Deletion is verified, not assumed. Our server sweeps your data, then checks that it is actually gone, and only then removes the sign-in. If any step fails, nothing is left stranded — your account survives, the app tells you so, and you can simply try again.
This cannot be undone. There is no recycle bin and no grace period. If you want to keep your journal, export it first: Settings → Export & Print makes one ZIP file holding every entry and every painting. It is free on every plan, and it is not a requirement — just an offer, and the only chance to take it.
Important
A subscription is not cancelled by deleting your account
Bloom Pro is billed by Apple or Google, not by us. We cannot stop, change or refund it, and deleting your account does not end it. If you have an active subscription, cancel it in the store first:
- iPhone / iPad: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Bloom Journal → Cancel.
- Android: Google Play → your profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Bloom Journal → Cancel.
The app shows you this same warning before it lets a subscriber delete their account. Refunds are the store’s to give, not ours.
What we keep, and why
One thing survives a deletion, and we would rather tell you plainly than let you discover it: a one-way fingerprint of your email address, in a small anti-abuse ledger.
When you had an account, we counted how many paintings and videos it had used this month against a row keyed by a SHA-256 hash of your email address. That row stays. It holds counters and internal references — no name, no words, no images, no readable address — and the hash cannot be turned back into your email.
It exists for one reason: the free plan gives everybody a few paintings a month, and each painting costs us real money to make. Without that row, an account could be deleted and made again every month to farm free credits, and the free plan would have to get smaller for everyone. Deleting your account is genuinely free; farming it is what the row prevents.
Alongside it, the same kind of hashed row records that a person has already claimed a referral reward or redeemed an invite code — one per person, ever, for the same reason.
If you want that row gone as well, say so in your email to hello@bloomjournaling.com and we will remove it. We will also tell you what that means: the free allowance attached to your address starts over.
How long it takes
| Route | When it is done |
|---|---|
| In the app | Immediately, while you wait — usually a few seconds. If the app stops waiting before the server has finished, the deletion carries on anyway; opening the app and asking again is safe and changes nothing. |
| By email | Within 7 days of your request, and we reply to confirm. |
Two honest footnotes. First, our error logs may hold ordinary technical records for a short while after a deletion; they carry error codes and counts, never your writing. Second, if you kept your journal on the device only and you also had Bloom on another phone, that second copy lives on that phone and was never on our servers — so there is nothing for us to delete there. Uninstalling the app removes it.
Questions
Anything at all — before, during or after — hello@bloomjournaling.com. A human reads it.
Whatever you decide, the paintings we made were yours. Take them with you if you’d like — and if you ever come back, we’ll start a fresh page.
